DescriptionThis is a studio photo of Miriam Mueller, who joined WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) during WWII. Miriam began boot camp in April 1944 at Hunter College in the Bronx, NY. She underwent further training at the Gunnery School at NAS Pensacola, FL. She was then assigned to teach gunnery in ground school at NAS Atlantic City, NJ. When the base was closed, she spent the remaining service time at Muston Field on the Philadelphia Navy Yard, PA, until her discharge in July 1946. She had a Specialist (Gunnery) 1st Class rating.
This photo was part of a wall display presentation in honor of the women who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. The museum presentation was prepared for Memorial Day 2001, and remained until the end of the year. The photos were mounted on red construction paper and the narrative placed on white paper stars. Both were mounted on a blue background.
