DescriptionThis photo-postcard of the Moravian Church altar was taken in Egg Harbor City, NJ, in the late 1890s or early 1900s. It was addressed to Miss Pauline Blattner, 37 N. Franklin Str., Phila., PA from her friend, Minnie Karrer.
The focal point of this image is the Christmas altar. A tall Christmas tree, laden with ornaments in the shape of angels and snowflakes, stands to the right of the altar.
The front of the postcard is inscribed with the message, "Dear Pauline Do you recognize this place and tree. Minnie K."
The back of the postcard reads, "Dear Pauline: Recieved your postal was very glad to hear from you. But was so surprised to hear that you found a Santa Claus in a Moravian Church. I think its very, very wrong. to my knowledge such a Sunday School cannot prosper."
