DescriptionSteel engraving of the Grimshaw Brothers Silk Mills on the corner of Slater Street and Dale Avenue, circa 1880. The company was established by three brothers, John, George J. and David H., from MacClesfield, England, in 1871. MacClesfield was a silk manufacturing city in England. Thousands would leave that city and settle in Paterson including John Ryle, "Father of the Silk Industry."Source: Trumbull's History of Paterson.
