DescriptionThese are pages from a survey conducted by the New Jersey Department of Institutions and Agencies and the Interracial Committee of the New Jersey Conference of Social Work during the summer and fall of 1931. The survey concerns the living conditions of African Americans in Atlantic City. The living conditions of many different African American families in the area indicate living standards ranging from lower class with a general lack of educational opportunity, access to health care facilities or decent wages to middle class living conditions with opportunities for higher education, and household luxuries. There is also a detailed description of the range of labor positions the subjects have occupied.
