DescriptionIllustrated colored postcard of the Middlesex County courthouse and Maine Monument.
The monument, dedicated to the three New Brunswick sailors who died in the February 15, 1898 Havana Harbor explosion, was erected in 1899 and was relocated to Buccleuch Park (Easton Aveune entrance) in 1958.
The Courthouse, erected in 1840, occupied the block of Bayard, Paterson, Kirkpatrick and Elm Row, and was completed at a cost of $40,000. It was of massive, temple-fronted Greek Revival structure. Built of brick with a base of blue granite, it was heralded as being "airy and open." By the 1940s, the structure was over a century old and was soon replaced by a more modern edifice.
