Williams Jr. Remarks before American Association of Museums, 2 April 1974.Senator Williams was a member of the Special Subcommittee on the Arts, which served under the Committee on Labor and Public Welfare. This subcommittee was charged with considering the formation of an organization to assist with the growth and development of the arts in the United States. The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) were signed into law in September 1965. Williams later assisted New Jersey associations seeking funding from the NEA and NEH.
