DescriptionThe grounds of the Botto House reflect the ethnic origin of this family of silk workers from the Piedmonte (Biella) area of Italy and the development of housing in early streetcar suburbs. Pietro, Maria, and their four daughters excavated earth at the rear of the sloping property and placed the soil at the front. Gradually a terrace-effect was created that became quite elaborate.
