DescriptionThe photograph shows a man and woman of the Guala Family. It was taken sometime in the late 1800's near Paterson, New Jersey. The Guala family were immigrants that came to Paterson to work in its textile factories. The Guala's were one of the many immigrant families to earn a living through the rough and dismal work found in Paterson's industrial factories. The American Labor Museum online collection includes historical documents and photos. The objects document the domestic lifestyles, working experience in textile factories, and labor union activity of working class immigrant families of Paterson, NJ and environs, ca. 1890 - 1920. Also documented are activities of the Textile Workers' Union of America (TWUA), the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers' Union of America (ACTWU), and textile union leader Sol Stetin.
