DescriptionThis photograph, which dates to 1910, documents Theodore Roosevelt's visit to Egg Harbor City, NJ. Roosevelt and others are visible on the back of a train at the Philadelphia Avenue crossing, heading for Philadelphia.
Roosevelt had taken the oath of office in 1901, shortly after the assassination of President McKinley. He was later elected President in 1904. In 1912, not long after this photograph was taken, Roosevelt would attempt a third term of office as the Progressive (Bull Moose) Party candidate.
A sign on the right side of the picture reads "Look Out for the Locomotive."
