DescriptionRadio Corporation of America (RCA) was an American electronics company in existence from 1919 to 1986. The booklet entitled “The RCA Laboratories” was prepared by RCA’s Laboratories Division to show the special facilities and physical conditions which went into making up the seat of RCA research at the David Sarnoff Research Center located in Princeton, New Jersey. Within the booklet, RCA’s Laboratories Division present their ideas of what a research laboratory should be, not only in its physical construction, but also in the facilities which it affords for individual service and for group communication and interaction. Two historic technology developments, among many, took place at the David Sarnoff Research Center and have been recognized by the IEEE History Center Milestone Program. The first is the innovation of the Monochrome-Compatible Electronic Color Television that took place between 1946 and 1950. For the next three years, engineers at the RCA Laboratories worked with other industry engineers to develop a national analog standard that lasted until the transition to digital broadcasting at the turn of the century. The second historic innovation that took place at the David Sarnoff Research Center is the invention of the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) in 1968. The innovation of LCDs launched a global industry that now produces millions of LCD panels annually for watches, calculators, flat-panel displays in televisions, computers, cell phones, tablets and other electronics.
