DescriptionThe following information and photograph were from a wall display presentation in Egg Harbor City, NJ, in honor of the women who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. The museum presentation was prepared for Memorial Day 2001, and remained until the end of the year. The photos were mounted on red construction paper and the narrative placed on white paper stars. Both were mounted on a blue background.
Anna Peterson Gorbig (WAVES) did her boot camp training at Hunter College in the Bronx, NY beginning in June 1944. She was assigned to Norfolk, VA as a Telegrapher 2nd Class. "In August, my mother, brother and aunt visited me in Norfolk, VA. We went out to eat, and when we left the restaurant, the streets were filled with sailors and people, all celebrating V-J Day. Crowds of people spent V-J night on the docks watching fireworks." Anna was discharged in September 1945.
