DescriptionJunso Matsumura entered Rutgers College in 1868, but left after three terms of study in 1869 to enroll in the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland as a cadet midshipman. Four years later, he graduated with the class of 1873. He went on to serve in the Imperial Japanese Navy as a Captain, before advancing to the rank of Rear Admiral, and then Vice Admiral. He died in 1919.
