DescriptionThis is a studio portrait of Jean Henderson Wiegand, a member of the U.S. Marine Corps Women's Reserve. Jean was one of the first class of enlisted Women Marines at Hunter College in the Bronx, NY. Her primary duty was as a recruiter. Her final assignment was at the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, DC. She was the typist of the Japanese Instruments of Surrender.
This photo was part of a wall display presentation in honor of the women who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. The museum presentation was prepared for Memorial Day 2001, and remained until the end of the year. The photos were mounted on red construction paper and the narrative placed on white paper stars. Both were mounted on a blue background.
