DescriptionQuilt top was started by my aunt (Gloria Hysaw) who lives in Denver, Colorado. She had finished most of the star portion of the quilt. She put it away because it was getting too big and she didn’t know how to square it off. Then one day she was cleaning out a closet in the house and found it. She said, she knew she wasn’t going to finish it, so she called me to ask if I wanted it. I received it last year 2015 and finished this year 2016, just in time for the show. The large star is made from many small diamonds cut out to make the large completed star. I had to put in more small diamonds to finish the large star so that I could square it off. The top was started by hand piecing so I had to finish it by hand piecing also. The whole quilt top was hand pieced. I used the green cotton fabric for the background of the star, and muslin for the backing. I used flannel for the batting, and I machine quilted the background fabric around the star with stippling. I used heavy thread to hand tie the star portion of the quilt to keep it together in sections. This was the biggest quilt I ever made.
