DescriptionThe Courthouse Steps quilt pattern is a variation of the traditional 12” square Log Cabin quilt pattern. Two strips of fabric are added to opposite sides of a center square first, and then two more strips are sewn to the remaining sides of the center. The same back-and forth motion continues as the block increases in size with additional strips of fabrics. For this quilt, wider strips of batik fabric were used to create a larger block with fewer steps. Twelve Courthouse Steps blocks were made, quilted individually and the assembled in the Quilt As You Go (QAYG) method. The placement of the twelve blocks was arranged, then joined together with a narrow, navy blue sashing and binding. The fabricselections were the inspiration for this quilt design.
