DescriptionDesigned in 1929 by famed theater architects Rapp and Rapp, The Loew's Jersey Theater occupies a central place in Journal Square. An original grand movie palace it could seat 3,000 people for vaudeville acts, concerts and, of course, motion pictures. The terra cotta facade boasts an impressive Seth Thomas clock. Above the clock sits St. George on Horseback. When the chimes rang at the top of the hour St. George would go into motion and slay the dragon. The interior boasts a three-story lobby with marble columns supporting a rotunda. Frank Sinatra claimed that after seeing Bing Crosby perform here in 1935 he knew he had to become a singer. Currently the theater hosts revival films, live performances and social events.
