DescriptionDuring the 1913 silk strike, over 20,000 silk mill workers gathered in the nearby town of Haledon at the home of Pietro and Maria Botto. From their second floor balcony members of the Industrial Workers of the World such as big Bill Haywood and Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, addressed the crowd, demand better conditions and the 8 hour workday.
