DescriptionThis photograph shows a crowd of people -- many with motorcycles -- in Egg Harbor City, NJ. The year is 1911; the location is the building at the north corner of Philadelphia Avenue, next to the old fire house.
The building shown was owned by the Goebbels family. Van's Cafe is on the left. The Egg Harbor Hotel, at 115 Philadelphia Ave., is on the right.
This detailed image is filled with flags and signs, including a keystone sign indicating the presence of a local telephone pay station. Men stand in the hotel doorway, while women peer out of the hotel windows.
The first three motorcycles as well as the last motorcycle are 1910 Harley Davidsons. The fourth and fifth motorcycles are 1911 Indians. Jake Kutz is seated behind John Husta and Bob Leseman.
