DescriptionLocated at 35 Journal Square on the corners of Bergen and Sip Avenues, this building was built as the headquarters for the Trust Company of New Jersey. The two original red-lettered neon signs which read "The Trust Company of New Jersey" sat atop the building and could been seen from New York City, securing its place as a Journal Square landmark. Built by the architects Clinton and Russell, this Italian Renaissance style structure was dedicated in 1927. In 1992 the eleven-story building underwent major renovations. The Trust Company of New Jersey was acquired by the North Fork Bancorp in 2004 and the familiar neon signs were replaced with new ones reading "North Fork Bank".
