DescriptionEugene C. Duryee, a New Jersey native, was born in Cherry Hill New Jersey in 1901 and graduated from Rutgers College in 1923. He continued his studies at the Hartford Seminary in Connecticut and graduated in 1926. Duryee was appointed a missionary by the General Synod of Hope College and at twenty five he was assigned to Meiji Gakuin (明治学院). While in Japan he assisted in writing Useful English: A Textbook of English Conversation, and provided an article to the Christian Intelligencer which consisted of information about Meiji Gakuin Junior High School. He returned to the United States in 1931, pursuing his master's degree in Chrsitian education from Union Theological Seminary and Columbia Univeristy. During this time he assisted with a youth education program at the Middle Collegiate Church in New York. He graduated in 1933, and became a pastor of Blue Mountain Reformed Church in 1943. He held this position until 1968 and became pastor emeritus of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church in 1981.
