DescriptionIbuka Kajinosuke (井深梶之助) was born in Aizu in the final years of Tokugawa as a son of a samurai and fought in the Battle of Aizu. After the Meiji Restoration, he was sent to Yokohama to study Western Learning and studied under the RCA missionary Samuel R. Brown. He was baptized by Brown in 1873 and spent the rest of his life as a devout Christian. After James C. Hepburn's retirement in 1891, he became the second president of Meiji Gakuin (明治学院).
