DescriptionYokoi Saheita (横井左平太; 1845-1875) and Yokoi Daihei (横井大平; 1850-1871) travelled from Japan to New Brunswick, New Jersey in the late 1860's under the assumed names of Ise Sataro (伊勢佐太郎) and Numagawa Saburo respectively, as part of the first wave of Japanese students to the enter the United States. The brothers were the first Japanese students to enter the Rutgers College Grammar School.
