DescriptionIn this "I remember" memoir, Teresa Masatani recalls her bible studies teacher, Mrs. Shizuko Kajikawa. She feels that Mrs. Kajikawa had a significant influence on her life because she was kind, tolerant, and loving. Teresa particularly liked bible study classes because Mrs. Kajikawa always offered peanut butter cookies and lemonade. Teresa also mentions that Mrs. Kajikawa acted like a surrogate parent to many Japanese children whose parents spent long hours working in the fields. During one summer, Teresa memorized 300 bible verses so that she could go to a free, week-long bible camp in Pennsylvania. The Seabrook Educational and Cultural Center has been soliciting current and past residents of Seabrook Farms for an "I remember" project. Residents are asked to create narratives regarding their experiences at Seabrook Farms. These memories help preserve the history and multi-cultural heritage of Seabrook Farms.
