DescriptionThese are pages from a survey conducted by the New Jersey Department of Institutions and Agencies and the Interracial Committee of the New Jersey Conference of Social Work concerning the living conditions of African Americans in New Brunswick and Perth Amboy. This government document presents the housing conditions of specific African American families ranging from lower class to middle class living circumstances. The greater number of the families surveyed lived in poverty. There is also a detailed description of the variety of labor positions the African Americans in the area have occupied.
