The NJDH organization consists of an Advisory Board, Steering Committee and Working Groups.
Advisory Board
The Advisory Board is the state-wide advocate for NJDH and provides executive oversight to the direction and development of the site. Among their primary responsibilities
- Recommend directions for NJDH and digital library development consistent with statewide needs.
- Meet 1-2 times annually to provide general oversight and strategic guidance to the Steering Committee.
- Provide advocacy for NJDH.
- Identify financial resources to sustain NJDH programs and collections.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee is the hands-on leader in the continuation and expansion of NJDH. Among their primary responsibilities:
- Write formal annual goals and develop a working plan to achieve them.
- Develop and administer NJDH bylaws.
- Develop strategies to expand collections at the state and local levels.
- Recommend options for future direction of NJDH to the Advisory Board; provide regular status updates to the Advisory Board.
- Keep abreast of developments in similar statewide initiatives, adopt new strategies and create partnerships where appropriate.
- Provide guidance and direction to the Working Groups to ensure short and long-term goals of NJDH are properly addressed.
- Ensure Working Groups have the tools needed to meet goals.
- Provide guidance for the website.
- Develop strategies to further engage the K-12 population.
- Solicit input and feedback from the general public through meetings, surveys and focus groups.
Working Groups
Working groups are responsible for the hands-on care and development of NJDH across multiple functions. Working groups monitor national and regional standards, trends and new developments in their respective disciplines. Ideally working groups meet monthly and formally document their progress for the Steering Committee. The head of each working group serves on the Steering Committee. Among each working group’s primary responsibilities:
Note: The responsibility of overseeing the end-to-end processing for a new collection (eg: securing, digitizing, training partners, entering metadata) must still be assigned.
