Il Messaggero, originally published in Italian, evolved into The Messenger, in English.  It began publication in 1904, primarily serving the second-generation Paterson Italian-American community.  The Sunday Chronicle, originally a weekly newspaper, suspended publication in 1942 and began again in 1951 as a weekly magazine, the only one in Northern New Jersey.
